My First Tag!

At least the first one that I bothered replying to, hahaha!

Thanks to Mian for tagging me!

The rules are:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know your entry is up.

Six things you may or may not know yet about me:
  1. My first pet: A big, fat super-cute tomcat named Kitty (as in, Hello Kitty). His equally-big sister puss, Katy, was my brother Randy's. Let's just say Kitty loved me more than Katy loved Randy, hahaha! I only learned to love dogs after college...
  2. I was a die-hard fan of Manilyn Reynes in grade 3! She danced to "Maniac" in one Christmas party in a family friend's house, and seeing her up close turned me into an instant fan! Her name was in my diary almost everyday for one schoolyear... Eeeeee, hahaha!
  3. I used to hide a box or two of Puffi Cones (nom-nom, I soooo miss them!) in my underwear drawer back in 5th grade so my brother wouldn't see them and steal them from me! Now I found a recipe for them, and would LOVE to try them out someday, yahoo!!
  4. My major major grade 5 crush eventually became my 1st boyfriend in college.
  5. I was part of an informal dance group in college, and we were supposed to be formally launched as an all-female dance group (mala-Whiplash, yeah!) in the concert of Rannie Raymundo... When I told my mom about our plans to go pro, she freaked and said, "I did not send you to just so that you become a dancer!". Rezza's Dancing Career immediately went *kapfffft!*
  6. I'm an adventurous foodie, and my fave cuisine today would be anything subcontinental (Indian/Persian/Mediterranean), Vietnamese, and Japanese.
P.S. What happened to the "Tatlong Beinte-Singko" heartthrob named Rannie? I just found out that he's now known as "The Boss" and now prefers 15 coins in a sleight-of-hand trick -- something he seems to now do for a living (huwhaaat?!?!). He's a lot heavier now, but still looks, uhm, cute.

Here are the 6 people I'm tagging (btw, I'm choosing peeps who somehow knew/know me during the different st(AGES) in my life):
  1. Cheya
  2. Bogey/Luis Espiritu
  3. Amor
  4. Jan Techico
  5. B(h)ob G
  6. Michelle P. (or Bob C)

Will be waiting guys!!!! Join in and tag someone too!

In which my SNS usage habits evolve...

...quickly in the past few months.

I really visit my Multiply site anymore, primarily because I find the pages load agonizingly sloooow...lowww...lowww.
I've already mentioned that I discovered the joys of micro-blogging through Plurk, and of course, Facebook! I've been trying to curb my "FB addiction", but with the ease of checking and updating my account thru my phone (Multiply is being so dang difficult to deal with through mobile internet, HMPH!), its sooo hard NOT TO!!

To rant a little bit more, uploading pics thru Multiply has been a pain talaga, while FB makes it a breeze. Of course, reading, replying and seeing what your network of FB friends are doing on a blow-by-blow basis is utterly... ENGAGING!

I'm still toying over maintaining my Blogger.com accounts (yes, I have 3 there hehehe)... But WordPress.com is quickly becoming the standard of bloggers, and I daresay, worldwide. To think I used to hate that site a year ago, it has evolved to becoming much, MUCH more.

What about Friendster? Well, it has its own space in the web right now, but has long become part of my SN (social networking) past.

happily eating Okonomiyake in Isshin! :-)

A new toy store opens in Manila!

A couple of nights ago, Jayvee F. shared to me that he got to browse in a totally different toy store that was just about to open on Sat, Oct. 25 2008 (yesterday). I was slightly amused because it seemed rather unusual to attend a toy store's pre-opening (maybe I couldn't totally relate because I'm not a mom yet, haha).

Of all the giant toy stores we already have here (I already get slightly dizzy with the selection at Rustan's, moreso Toy Kingdom), he said that what makes Pocketful of Kids distinct from your regular store is that they carry toys THAT NO OTHER TOY STORE HERE SELLS (quick thought: How'd they check out each and every store?!). And and and, it's NOT found in a mall, but...get this: they're in an OFFICE BUILDING (*mouth-gaping*).

Now THAT caught my attention! I was hooked, so I added "Pocketful of Kids" to my mental checklist of new things to check out. Even their store hours follow office hours, haha.

Pocketful of Kids:
15th Floor Strata 2000
Emerald Avenue, Ortigas Center
Opens at 9 AM

Rezza is happy! :-)
Rezza can't move from eating so much yummy shabu-shabu!

My Bucket List v.1

One of the movies that made me shed a gazillion tears was The Bucket List, starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. Here's my initial list of things I want to achieve before I finally 'kick the bucket':

1. Get happily married to The One.
2. Climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower
3. Have 2 beautiful God-centered kids.
4. Bungee-jump in Macau
5. Learn conversational French.
6. Live in some exotic country like Dubai, Johannesburg or Tanzania for at least 3 years.
7. Open my own successful restaurant (chain).
8. Design and retail my own jewelry line (ok, maybe this is easier than the resto)
9. Collect the works of at least 2 great national artists and 1 classic international painter

10. Design my dream house (single detached house ok? Not just a condo unit)

Give me a few more days to add to this rather short one.

I cannot believe...

...that it's already October.

The year has practically whizzed by. And strangely, I still recall the things that have happened to me since the 1st quarter... like they were just yesterday. Normally I get so entangled with my calendar that previous months (even weeks!) become fuzzy.

But the past 9 months are crystal clear.

BTW, another earthquake of magnitude 5.3 hit Mindoro at around 2am kanina. Third one to hit in less than a week.

My oh my...

...was the the last time I made an entry?? OMG.

I think I've no one else to blame but them.
Maybe you should check 'em out too.

What was smokin' for lunch today...

Finally had the patience to curb my hunger
pangs and take a pic of my meal before getting the it all mixed up. Lui
Ang and I decided to split a hotplate of scrummy Beef Curry Rice (and well seasoned with both the Honey Onion and the Garlic Soy sauces!). After
the first bite, I decided that this is THE more flavorful choice for
Pepper Rice! Love it!!!

Before diving into the meal, I first whetted my already-big appetite
with a whole order of Spicy Tuna Salad. The meal was topped off with a
Vanilla-Caramel sundae. Also priced at P30, their
differently-deliciously version was a refreshingly good alternative to
the Caramel Sundae of Micky Dees (McDo).

All from Pepper Lunch, Rockwell. YUMMY...

Plus, you get a smokey-beef scent on your hair and clothes right after.
Argh, where's the Febreze?!?!?

Relationships

Hm-mm...I got this email several years back, and I till today, I believe it sheds valuable insights to reflect and ponder on...

Relationships
Did you know that the devil is better at friendships and relationships than most Christians?

Do you remember when Jesus talked about a demon leaving a man? He said that when the devil leaves, he roams the earth to find some friends and then brings 7 demons worse (stronger) than him to occupy that man again.

Isn't’t that amazing? The devil will roam the earth to find 7 strong friends to overcome a situation, but Christians will hardly roam a street block to find strong relationships to help them overcome their situations!

It’s time we rise up, saints. The devil wants to divide us, so he can conquer us. He stops at no length to destroy our relationships with God., with our spouses, with our kids, with our pastors or churches.

The most meaningful relationships in our lives are often the hardest ones to maintain, but if we learn to do so, we will tap into a power rarely seen in this earth, Jesus put it this way: “ if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven” (Matthew 18:19).

Notice, the Father loves our agreement so much that He’ll give us anything for it – that’s powerful! The purpose of marriage or any Godly relationship is to produce power. When two people are in agreement about what they believe for, nothing will be impossible for them.

The Christian life is often a lonely life. We see betrayals and competitions, people feeling used or disposed of for someone else’s gain – and it doesn't’t happen only in the world! It’s in the church, and it hasn't’t crept in – it has stormed in, designed by the devil to keep us powerless.

Look at what God said in Genesis 11:6 when the people were of one mind and heart: “…nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.” That’s the power of relationships, or better said, that’s the power that God wants in our relationships. Not only do I want to show you how to walk in this kind of power, but I want to offer myself to you – join myself with you in producing that sort of power – it’s called a covenant relationship. It’s not just me sending you tapes, and you sending a monthly gift. It’s us joining together to release God’s unlimited power and blessing in every area of our lives.

But first, let me show you what it takes to have power-filled relationships in your life:
1. First of all, we must understand the purpose of the relationship.

As with anything, when the purpose of a thing is not understood, that’s when you will abuse that thing. (An example of this is money. People abuse money when they don’t understand its purpose.) I have found that the purpose of a relationship is to create a power or a strength that was not there before.

As I mentioned earlier, Jesus said if two shall agree, they can ask anything, and it shall be done for them. So the purpose of a relationship is to create an agreement that releases power in our lives – the power to receive anything!

Can you see why the devil works so hard at destroying or damaging your relationships?

Why does he divide people through offense, divorce, jealousy, strife, bitterness, and so many other forces? Because he wants to keep them from walking in the agreement that produces the supernatural power we’re talking about.

2. We must get rid of all strife and un-forgiveness in our lives.

When we are offended at somebody, we prevent the flow of power that comes from our agreement. We also open the door to a root of bitterness in our heart, which hinders our ability to hear from God and again, prevents God’s power from flowing in our lives. In Mark 11:25, Jesus said, “whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”

Forgiveness is one of the most important ingredients in relationships. People fall short; people hurt us; people mistreat us – we must forgive them.

3. Lower your expectations of people and raise your expectation of God.

One of the main reasons we have problems in our relationships is that we put too much dependence on people coming through for us or providing something for us. If you allow that to happen, then it puts too much power in other people’s hands – they can then control your emotions, your happiness, and your decisions with that power. If someone disappoints you or lets you down, it can hurt really badly – but if you put your trust in God coming through for you, rather than people, you can eliminate the disappointment and hurt.

We have it backwards. We believe too much of what people say and not enough of what God says. Change that, and you will find yourself freer and happier than you have been in years.

4. Understand the secrets to effective communication.

Follow this process:

A. In order to have a powerful relationship, you must have clear and effective communication.

B. In order to have great communication, you must have understanding.

One of the biggest problems in our relationships is feeling misunderstood. You want someone to understand you, understand where you are coming from and not judge your motives or intentions, right?

C. Well, in order to be understood, the other party needs to listen.

If they aren't’t listening, they’ll never understand you. If they’re already thinking about what they’re going to say while you are talking, they will not understand you.

I want to encourage you – if you need a harvest of someone listening to you, sow the seed by becoming a listener. The most successful parents, teachers, and salesmen are those who learned to listen. This is our seed – listening. Our harvest will be that others listen to us; they will understand us; we will build a great relationship.

D. Now, you will not listen to someone you don’t respect – so the next key here is respect.

How do you gain or give respect? Very simple.

You must trust. This is very hard when you have been lied to or lied about. But if you are to have the building block of respect, it must be built on trust. Broken trust produces broken relationships, and broken trust in the result of broken promises.

E. Therefore, the final ingredient, which in essence is the first ingredient, is integrity. To have a great relationships there must be truth in that relationship. Broken relationships, broken marriages, and broken people are the result of broken promises.

So let’s put it together:

When a person has integrity (keeps their word), you can trust them.
When you trust them, you can respect them.
When you respect them, you will listen to them.
When you listen, you will understand them.
When you understand them, you will have great communication.
And when you have great communication, you can come into agreement with them.

When you come into agreement with them, you can ask for anything, and it will be done for you (Matthew 18:19)

AMEN.

In which my mobile doubles...

...as my blog entry tool right now, but I totally forgot to watch where my fingers were clicking!
I guess i was typing away so furiously on my keypad that I didn't notice my entry was way over-kadover too long, and my i-Mode quit on me, erasing my long yadda-yadda about this weekend's ubër crazy sked...

In case you're wondering what i'm twittering about: You do know you can make blog entries via mobile and auto-send it to your Multiply, yes? No? Then go check your Multiply settings right now to see what i'm raving about...

But then again, how can you compose a long entry when your phone can only hold so much characters?

I accidentally realized this when I revisited my own 'mantika-ting' (aka dormant) Multiply account last night: As i was typing an entry using my mobile's usual 'messaging' portion (ok fine, I admittedly was just testing to see if I understood the service right), I suddenly had a "Eureka!" moment...

I could use the bigger-capacity i-Mail functionality of my phone to compose my blog entry! Whoa, now I realize how powerful our i-Mode service is for busy peeps like moi who love blogging but have no time to go online to write!! I can just click away and upload my blog entry, using my cell--INSTANTLY (no matter how yadda-yadda my entry can get)!! Woohoo!! Mr. Louie Ang, you should pay me for this real consumer insight! And converting my mobile to something more kick-ass won't just do it! Mwahahaha... :) Anyway, to all my friends using Smart Gold, have N-series phones and like emailing and blogging on the go, get your free i-Mode upgrade na!

Eeps, I'm in my geek-face mode :-( must be the combi of a still-rumbling tummy, and lack of sleep. I am so craving for Lamb Biryani right now!

Drop or not?

Just when i was dissing Friendster in favor of Multiply, and deemed Facebook a waste of time cuz of its juvenile and crazy apps, I've had some experiences that made me re-think my move.

Once, a friend texted asking for help sourcing a resource speaker for Standard Chartered Bank. Since she needed someone with a sort of celeb calibre, Carelle came to mind, since she works with Anthony Pangilinan for talks and conventions. Unfortunately Carelle's number vanished along with my lost cell last November. Without blinking, my first suggestion was to have her "connect" to Carelle thru my Friendster! All she had to do was tell her i referred her...
Geez, i'm a member of 4 online communities, but my Friendster network tops the list with my nearly 600 connects. Of course its because i've been using it for 5 yrs! Admittedly, i've been able to re-connect with alot of friends from school.

So, there is merit in keeping my Friendster alive.

In which the new graduates set out...

... together with the rest of the Benildeans (?) and all other 2008 graduates who will now comprise the huge sea of young humanity that will populate the Philippines in their temporary state of unemployment.

I hope they turn out to be leaders, and none fall into being lemmings And my prayer is that they find their corner in the sky sooner or later.

As I sat right smack in the middle of the PICC Plenary Hall this morning, amidst all the rest of family and friends (not so many teary-eyed parents around, hehehe), I mulled over the fact that in the few hours that I sat there killing time while waiting for the roll call of graduates finish, I was witness to yet another batch of graduates who will join the struggle of the human race in making meaning out of their lives. This "commencement exercise" actually symbolized their beginnings in "REAL ADULTHOOD". No longer will their concerns be of midterms, unfinished thesis papers, missing reports, cranky professor, psychotic blockmates, late night/early morning cramming of memorization techniques. New concerns will take over: Where to work, what work to find, what to wear to work... then it transitions to... how much bills to pay, how to survive till the next paycheck, how to please the fright-inducing superior, how to make it through the rat race.

The lackluster reaction that the general student body had towards the pretty, fair-skinned summa cum laude caught my attention as well. I scanned the souvenir program, and noted her major: FDM. I quickly picked it up as "Fashion Design and Merchandising". Hmmm, it definitely didn't sound as technical as "Applied Computer Studies" nor as challenging as "BS Management" with all the accounting and stat subjects (ugh, flashbacks!!). And I saw that the 3 other cum laude grads were also FDM majors.

Allow me to make my own conclusion: The other grads must've thought that this young lady didn't anguish through much blood, sweat and tears as they must have with their "more difficult" courses. It does seem to make sense. But then again, I felt silent admiration for this girl. Despite the fact that she seemed rather "flighty" by citing Coco Chanel as her inspiration, one thing clearly struck me: This girl knew her inner passion, and followed it throughout her college life with much courage, zest and zeal. In her short speech, she expressed that the Philippine Fashion industry had much improvements to be made, and that there were a lot of fabrics that have yet to be used to their fullest potential.

I'm placing my bets on this girl, that the ripples she is making today will turn into full-fledged waves when she strides through the halls of local fashion... and maybe later, emerge as another Josie Natori or Monique Lhuillier, making all of Hollywood's brightest stars and bigwigs fall agog over their creations.

My point is: This batch's summa cum laude may not be the brightest and most technically adept computer whiz in all of Benilde, but I know she carries within her the fire that's needed for one to successfully carve her own niche in a seemingly chaotic world, and possesses the conviction to make it truly on her own, unfazed by what others may think or say of her in the journey towards her success.
